Today was a very busy, scheduled day… meetings, phone calls, lunch, kids pick up, dinner out, etc etc… all basically back to back. And I caught myself thinking as I did my hair, OK, gotta do this, then bolt there, then hurry back to collect the kids, then race to get this done, then do that quickly… and earlier on the phone I had said to a friend that I was ‘rushing around…’
oops. With thoughts like these, I am going to be really stressed by the end of my ‘rushing, bolting, hurrying’ day. So I made a conscious effort to stop this talk and replace it with positive words. Ones that wont stress me out. There have been hold ups… things have taken longer than I thought, and still at 3pm in the afternoon I am relaxed and calm – a huge difference! I have enjoyed my busyness, rather than stressed about it.
What words are you using in your conversations with yourself and others? How do those words affect how you perceive your day? For the next few days, stop and listen to what you are saying – where you find negative, or stressing language, why not think about how could you turn that around with a new awareness?
