Dudley and Cuddly

May 7th, 2005 · No Comments

My youngest son Daniel has two little dogs (stuffed ones) that can sit neatly in the palm of your hand – they are golden retriever look alikes with big floppy ears, one has a purple coat and one has a red coat (made by Gran) and their names are Dudley and Cuddly…

They can be quite noisy at times, but at the moment with their master at school, they are sitting quietly on a stool at the kitchen bench watching me type.  He loves those little dogs…and sometimes they can get up to quite a lot of mischief.

But whenever Daniel is feeling insecure, these dogs rub his face, and snuggle with him, and help him to feel better and more confident about the demands of being 7 years old.  They encourage him to look inward for his strength.  They cheer him up when he is feeling blue.  Whilst he has always been a ‘snuggly’ boy, he has an amazing core of strength and determination.

As we grow out of childhood toys, stuffed animals and imaginary friends, we often loose those things that make us feel strong with no strings attached…

Is there something (or a someone) in your life that makes you feel brave and determined – that gives you strength to go on and reassures you that you are a good, worthwhile person, no strings attached?  Where does your core of strength come from?
