To continue on with my ‘theme’ of connection, today I’d like to talk about a couple of quick ways to connect with those family and friends we haven’t spoken with recently – whilst fitting it into our busy lives.
- Instead of emailing or sending an SMS, pick up the phone and talk to your friends or family – voice contact is much warmer than electronic messages
- Make a list of the friends you haven’t seen in too long, call one a week and make a date to catch up with them. Make the catch up face to face wherever possible. Catch up for dinner, a picnic lunch, Sunday brunch, or a quick coffee – whatever works for the two (or more) of you
- Write a letter instead of a quick email to friends or family who live interstate or overseas. Make it warm and full of your daily life. Let them know you have been thinking of them. It doesn’t have to be War and Peace, just a page or two of heartfelt words… imagine the joy at the other end when there is more than bills in their letterbox!
What other ways can you restore connection with friends and family? What reactions do you get from your family and friends when you make the effort to connect? How does that feel?
