A recent study conducted over eight years in the US has found that people who drink diet soft drinks dont lose weight. In fact, they gain weight.
As reported on my.WebMD.com, the study showed that total soft drink consumption was linked to overweight and obesity – which wasnt surprising. What was surprising was that when they looked at people only drinking diet softdrinks, their risk of obesity was even higher.
There was a 41% increase in risk of being overweight for every can or bottle of diet soft drink a person consumes each day!!!
One of the ways they explained these results is "if you offer your body something that tastes like a lot of calories, but it isnt there, your body is alerted to the possibility that there is something there and it will search for the calories promised but not delivered…. People think they can just fool the body. But maybe the body isnt fooled. If you are not giving your body those calories you promised it, maybe your body will retaliate by wanting more calories."

So, it looks like water is best after all. Scary isnt it?
