Ooooh the countdown is really on for the release of the latest Harry Potter book. 2 sleeps to go!!
Do you remember in the last Harry Potter – The prisoner of Azkaban – how Professor Quirrell was running a class specifically with the intention of helping Harry get over his fear of dementors?
And so, he introduced the kids to a Boggart… a creature which works out what your greatest fear is and mimics it. And how the kids had to learn the ‘ridiculus’ spell to turn that fear into something ridiculous that made them laugh. Thus removing the fear… and the power that fear had over them.
We have been taught something similar when we are told to imagine the audience naked when we are nervous about a presentation. (Make them look silly, so the fear loses it’s power…)
I am NOT sure this will work with my fear of spiders and creepy crawlies, but I am going to take a leaf out of Professor Quirrell’s class and look for ways to convert something I fear into something silly – magic wand ready…
