It was G’s firm’s Christmas Party on the weekend. They do things just a little differently.
I had a relaxation massage, then a manicure and pedicure and walked out of there absolutely floating on air.
That evening we went out to dinner with some of the crew and their
families from the firm. It was a lovely night, and we really didnt
care that it took all night for us to be served (although some of the
young kids were well past it by the time we finished)
The next morning we were up fairly early, and walked up the lane to
breakfast. Instead of having one big restaurant where breakfast is
served, this place has little ‘lounges’ dotted around the complex
(which is HUGE – they have shuttle services to pick you up and drop you
where you want to go, that’s how big it is!) where they serve
continental breakfast. It was lovely, and there were only two other
families there so it was also nice and quiet.
Then we donned our togs, slapped on the sunscreen, slipped on a hat
and took the shuttle down to the beach club. Here is a beautiful
lagoon pool with lots of pool lounge chairs dotted around under the
native trees. I decided to stay put and set up camp under an umbrella
while the boys went down and did some boogy boarding on the beach (surf
was pretty flat). At one stage I had the whole pool to myself and
couldnt resist hopping in and floating about in the peace.
When the boys returned from the beach, a rather energetic game of pool frisby ensued, with Master7′s new Wahu disc.
Later we went to the Christmas lunch, which was very interesting
with all the different personalities that work together, then it was
time to come home and collect gorgeous girl (who had decided a friends
sleepover birthday party was much more important, as you do when you
And as I reflected on the weekend, I guess the best thing for me was
the chance to get right out of routine to the space where I just HAVE
to relax. And at this time of year, that is usually next to
When I was having the massage, I had to deliberately interrupt my
thoughts and say STOP! Stop thinking about what you have to do next,
or how you are going to this and that, and just concentrate on the
moment. The more I was aware of my thoughts and could interrupt them,
the more relaxed I got. And because I did this right at the start of
my weekend, that calmness stayed with me through the whole weekend.
Now, if I could just get the feeling to stay permanently as I launch into final preparations for the Christmas holidays…
