Reading List Selections

March 6th, 2006 · 1 Comment

I was writing about books, and reading lists and working out which books are worth the money and which ones definitely arent yesterday – and I wanted to share a special resource with you, if you havent already found it.

Rosa Say – that prolific blogger and amazing woman – recently held her 2nd Annual Love Affair with Books over at Talking Story.  This list contains more than 20 posts by members of the Talking Story Community that review special, worthwhile books.  I have definitely added a couple of these to my reading list, after reading what these special people had to say about them.  Thanks for putting this list together, Rosa – I know how much effort must have gone into it!

From now on, personal recommendation (preferably including a personal ‘take’ on the book) from people I trust is going to be my selection method of choice for book purchases, rather than ‘bestseller’, Amazon recommendation, shelf placement at Dymocks, the freebies that come with it (never been a high attraction for me anyway) or any other method of selection (except possibly the occasional ‘gut feel’ buy).  Of course, all bets are off when it comes to borrowing books from the library!

My time is extremely valuable to me – I love to read, but I need to monitor what I read to make sure it is worthy of my spending some of those precious moments. I aim to pay it forward by sharing my reading with others.

You probably already pick your books like this – dont you?

Aloha Karen, you are very welcome; I am so glad you enjoyed our book forum! Thank you for sharing the pointer with your readers.

And you are so right: a recommendation from someone you know and trust makes all the difference in the world when there is so much out there to choose from!

Mahalo for continuing to visit Talking Story and for being part of the community, Rosa
