Catching the 'why we blog' virus

February 26th, 2007 · 5 Comments

Why do I blog?  Well, this particular post is because my dear friend Chris from Pink Apple tagged me!  Can that be reason #1?

Seriously, this meme has been getting round for a while now, and some – like Rosa, and Tony, left the tag open for any who felt like taking up the challenge. And I really didn’t at that stage.  They all came up with brilliant, personal, detailed reasons why they blog.  And THEIR reasons challenged me, more than anything else…

But now that Chris has named names and put me in the glare of the headlights, I’m going to accept the challenge to tell five reasons why I blog.

1.    Blogging helps me write about what I need to learn, and in the writing of it, the learning appears.

My_world2.    Writing for an audience, especially a virtually instant audience, means I need to brave, courageous and all those words that shove fear back into a box… and that is good for my soul

3.   I am constantly amazed at the connections I make throughout the world… the friendships that I have made, and continue to make through blogging make it all worthwhile.

4.    Blogging helps develop that level of intimacy, immediacy, respect and trust with potential clients – they already feel they know and trust me before we ever connect, and it can act as a filter to those who don’t feel that way.

5.   I simply love it.

Alright, I’m taking a leaf out of Rosa and Tony’s books… if you’d like to share some of the reasons why you blog… please do! And if you’d rather hide away, well, fair enough!

Now WHAT would you have gained if I HADN’T tagged you?
See it was good for the soul, wasn’t it???

Well done Karen! Leave that fear in the box for your blogging helps us all learn with you. Good for the soul indeed :-)

Chris, as usual, you are so right. I did gain something out of this exercise. Thanks my friend.

And Rosa – thank you…for visiting, and for encouraging and inspiring us all with your generosity and spirit.

I am one of the many people who are grateful to you for being brave and putting your thoughts out there for us. Your posts always make me think, and they often feed my own posts. Thank you for writing.

Thank you Verna! You have brightened my day considerably (and it was already looking pretty good:). It’s always so good to know that others appreciate my writing. The feeling is mutual!
