Rapid Fire Learning – May is a beautiful month!

Rapid Fire Learning
Over at Joyful, Jubilant Learning (a community I am proud to be a part of) Terry Starbucker has published his Rapid Fire Learning for the month of May.

I find the process of sitting down and thinking about what I have learned really interesting. Our lives get so busy, so full of the everyday stuff, that we miss the things we have learned, and how we have grown in the doing.

Reading Terry‘s list, and then Rosa‘s (and Greg’s in her comments) made me think more about how diverse our learning can be – and how every hour, every day, every month we learn lots of little things that build upon each other to grow the person we are. Here are five things I have learned this month (in no particular order).

  • My children are growing up, and I need to trust that they will make decisions that are right for them, and believe that they will be safe. I also need to remember that I cannot protect them when they go out into the big, wide world. It is their life and they need to live it – how they see best, lessons and all.
  • Having a clean, tidy desk and the filing done makes such a huge difference to my productivity!
  • If I don’t get enough sleep, not only does my effectiveness suffer, so does my health. I need to be ever vigilant, and take care of myself first.
  • I learned that moving (website and blog) doesn’t have to be stressful… although there are still boxes to be unpacked and words to be written and pictures to be selected, we’re up and running and open for business! My inner perfectionist is taking a back seat to my health and sanity…
  • Last, but by no means least, I learned that the weekends away just the two of us that we take every couple of months are so very important to our relationship, our family and ourselves as individuals. Getting away, where there is no washing, ironing, cooking, cleaning, taxiing, refereeing.. etc, even for just two days, is as important to us as breathing.
  • Obviously this month most of my learning was personal. What about you? What was your focus for May? Please share five things you’ve learned in May… there is time to reflect and plan before June is upon us.

Ah children and what they will learn in the transition to adulthood :-) A very wise friend once shared with me a mantra that she used everytime her children where making decisions that she may not have agreed with. It goes -

“The wisdom of the universe is in my children and they will be alright”.

And my learning this month …. the more I learn, the more I realised that I have yet more to learn.
