The key to balancing your desire to be at peace with your need to achieve, perform, and earn a living is in recognizing that there’s no such thing as stress; there are only people thinking stressful thoughts. It’s really as simple as that. When you change the way you process the world, the world you’re processing changes.
- Wayne Dyer, Being in Balance
On this beautiful, fresh, crisp Monday morning the furtherest thing from our minds should be that we are feeling stressed. But it’s so ingrained in us that Monday is one of ‘those’ days… a blue day – a day for dragging ourselves out of bed and off to work. A no fun day.
It doesn’t have to be like that! This is one of the main reasons I write these “start your week with joy” posts. For I believe in starting as we mean to continue – and what a better way to start our week than with joy?
Do you like that photo at the top of this post? I took that last weekend at Magnetic Island off Townsville… now, I am no photographer, but I am rather pleased with my effort here, it’s not the quality of the photo but the feeling of absolute peace and tranquility it represents.
It’s all in the mind…
This week, can we ‘change the way we process the world’ as Wayne Dyer puts it? It’s all about what we think about.
It’s time to recognise when we start to ‘catastrophise’. Rather than thinking about the worst that can happen, and getting ourself into a downward spiral of worry and stress, we need to recognise that we’re feeling bad because of the thoughts we are thinking. Now you can see what you’re doing, stop.
Erase those thoughts.
Take a deep breath and start thinking of the best-case scenario. Gaze at a beautiful scene like the photo above (if you like, right click and save it as your desktop background…) and let your stressful thoughts drift away on the tide (or bury them in the sand).
I‘m rather passionate about this subject, so expect to see more on it soon!
