Sometimes we need to just let go, just be

September 25th, 2007 · 3 Comments

a good relaxing soak does wonders for the soul

Go for long walks,

indulge in hot baths,

question your assumptions,

be kind to yourself,

live for the moment,

loosen up,

curse the world,

count your blessings,

just let go,

just be.

– Carol Shields

When it all becomes too much to bear – how do you retreat? Being kind to ourselves is the best thing we can do to restore our equilibrium.

I’m trying to remember that with a house filled to the brim with children, dogs, builders, brothers, chaos and madness this week. I have decided that working from home, renovations and school holidays do. not. go. together.

This week and next, as I try to launch The Calm Space amidst the chaos of school holidays (WHY did I do that?) I have decided that the best hours for me to work are while the kids are still asleep in the early morning light. This morning I got more done between 6am and 9am than I have accomplished the rest of the day.

And with each interruption, I am taking a deep, deep breath and exhaling. That is all. Simply exhaling slowly and with focus. Then tonight I am going to test-drive our new spa-bath – with a glass of wine and a locked door.

How kind are you to yourself when things get a little crazy around you?

    Hi there,
Just discovered your blog and this post hit home so much I had to write. I have just been doing exactly the same. And posted Carol Shields’ wise words on my blog. Funny that.

    Hi Mimi,
thank you so much for visiting and leaving a comment to let me know.

Isn’t it amazing that we both chose those words from Carol Shields, but they resulted in very different realisations for us both?!
