Go for long walks,
indulge in hot baths,
question your assumptions,
be kind to yourself,
live for the moment,
curse the world,
count your blessings,
just let go,
– Carol Shields
When it all becomes too much to bear – how do you retreat? Being kind to ourselves is the best thing we can do to restore our equilibrium.
I’m trying to remember that with a house filled to the brim with children, dogs, builders, brothers, chaos and madness this week. I have decided that working from home, renovations and school holidays do. not. go. together.
This week and next, as I try to launch The Calm Space amidst the chaos of school holidays (WHY did I do that?) I have decided that the best hours for me to work are while the kids are still asleep in the early morning light. This morning I got more done between 6am and 9am than I have accomplished the rest of the day.
And with each interruption, I am taking a deep, deep breath and exhaling. That is all. Simply exhaling slowly and with focus. Then tonight I am going to test-drive our new spa-bath – with a glass of wine and a locked door.
How kind are you to yourself when things get a little crazy around you?
